THANKS DOM FOR THE ARTWORK!!

Still working in the short film's pre-production. Our very creative and professional story-boarder (Dominic) is been doing an amazing job with the art work for the Story-board. Click on the images to enlarge this sneak-peek of the process.

Since we started discussing this project we wanted to set the mood of this film as a dream sequence/flashbacks. Flickering images following a story line, nice visual effects accompanied with sound editing.

The week began with plenty of planning, researching the way to get a permit to film inside trains and prints, casting actors, but even more important, defining roles inside our team's production. Everyone has their own expectations of this project and is almost impossible to please all of them. The first reason, very obvious this one, you get such an amount of opinions and diverse critique that makes it impossible to follow all the good intentions behind them. Second, even inside our team we need a directive, in order to have clear roles, direct responsibilities and respect The Golden Rule. Finally, we decided to have Kat as our director because she has a clear view of the project as a whole, moreover, everything began as a very intimate/personal perception of mortality.

OUR FIRST! (Pre-production... what a bitch...)

It's about time...

The first week of the project (the week beginning the 7th of March) was spent on gathering ideas within the group. We were presented with an original premise written by Kat (now our production team's director) about "what the eyes fail to see".

The premise of the story was very broad and open to many interpretations, so having a multicultural team: Deiter from the Philippines, Kat from England, Mayra from Peru and Dominic (who's lived in both the Philippines and in New Zealand) works to our advantage because of the variety of backgrounds and cultures. A whole morning was spent brainstorming about what does it mean to have a second thought or opinion and appreciation for our lives and our possessions, such as material things, money, knowledge, family and so on and so forth.

One of our teachers, who overlooks all group projects (including ours), came over for a discussion with our progress in this production. Long story short, he simply ripped into us. Having said that, we've called it a day afterwards so that each group member can go home and take the time to absorb all the information which we have shared... and have been spoon-fed...

The message of the premise, if the momentary title didn't explain itself, was "Appreciate what you have, think twice about what you waste". From this, we had plenty of ideas to work with, but we encountered the problem of having too many ideas to work with, most of which were not achieveable because of the limitations of our project (the time allocated, equipment, external resources and finance). At the end of the second day, we came to a decision to settle for the original script, therefore the finalised premise is: appreciate what you have, don't dwell on that which you do not.

Come Wednesday, we have made some good progress with our project, with the treatment of the story being developed (and the logistics of this treatment is being addressed to in parallel) so it's a good start.

Another blog to follow to finish up for the week.
